NOT JUST A LABEL IS NOW PROUD TO INTRODUCE LARA STONE, THE ICONIC DUTCH SUPERMODEL, WHO BELIEVES THAT “INDIVIDUALITY IS A NECESSITY”, AS THE HOST OF ITS CURATED ONLINE STORE DURING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER.

Meeting Lara Stone can feel like standing face to face with the epitome of sexiness and attitude; a human symbol of a tiny revolution inside an industry where the prerequisites seem hard to challenge. The girl who now ranks as number three out of the world’s top 50 on Models.com, possesses an unusually captivating charm, and a figure and feline face that has earned her comparisons to Brigitte Bardot. She is the girl of the year; we just cannot get enough of her. And in the midst of all this Lara-craze, the 25-year-old Dutch casually dismisses the hysteria and body-focus and just keeps doing what she is good at. It is exactly this strong and individual edge that has got the world so fascinated.

She has many characteristics; the full lips, gapped teeth, razor-sharp cheekbones and cat-like eyes, and of course her trademark round breasts that have had teenage boys and fashion photographers alike drooling at her beauty. But more importantly, Lara has humour. She refers to her curves as “tits and arse” and cheekily admits she enjoys being able to smoke while at work. Still, she is open and honest, something which has brought a fresh touch to many of her editorials. Her combination of sex appeal with a softer, more vulnerable side in the first French Vogue cover triggered a well of much-earned praise. No matter who everyone else wants her to be, Lara continues to be her own, relatable self.

Things have not always been easy. For a time after being discovered in her early teenage years in Paris, Lara experienced difficulties of landing the big fashion jobs. After nearly giving up a few years ago, she was convinced her to try a new agency, leading her to switch to IMG Models. This decision proved to be her most important career move so far. Riccardo Tisci soon spotted her for Givenchy and made an instant speed-dial to French Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld who subsequently “decided to make Lara a star” by bleaching her eyebrows and dedicating an entire issue to her new favourite girl.

Since then, Lara’s fashion career has looked bright. She has done campaigns for Hugo Boss, Just Cavalli, Jean-Paul Gautier, and Calvin Klein, as well as numerous editorials for all the world’s editions of Vogue, i-D, V and W magazines. To every job she takes on, she leaves her signature edgy touch.

She says her job can be easy, allowing her to travel and meet new people every day, but she also acknowledges her privilege. Her own experiences in the fashion industry have only helped to strengthen her belief in the importance of involving fresh ideas and talent in the business. This is why she is so keen to work with and help bring into the light upcoming, inspiring designers, making her a perfect host for Not Just A Label.

I asked Lara some questions…

FASHION IS… About making people really, really ridiculously good looking.

EMERGING TALENT… Is talented, hopefully.

INDIVIDUALITY IS… A necessity.

THERE’S TOO MANY… Really annoying people, spiders, rules, “Designers”, Americans with spandex and fanny packs, people who look up to Paris Hilton (although she is always nice).

DID YOU KNOW… Holland is the most amazing country in the world?

I SCREAM WHEN… I’m on a plane or at Euro Disney.

I DANCE LIKE… An idiot.

CAKE MAKES ME… Fat and happy.

IF I COULD… I would be invisible. Or I would invent a time machine, or something that would get rid of all cables… I hate cables.

I HAVE NEVER… Been happy at an airport, had sex on a plane, dated my friend’s ex boyfriend or behaved myself.

MY DREAMS ARE… Always really disturbing.

MY VICE IS… Smoking, coffee, swearing, being grumpy, Appeltaart.

I SUCK… Yes.

I LIVE EAST… Because I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I wasn’t constantly surrounded by super trendy people! No, I was homeless and needed a place to live.

I WOULDN’T PAY FOR… Sex, a cat, a boob job, to see Brüno again, to go bungee jumping, a house in Mierlo, anything pink…

MY MUM… Is really good at ‘knock down ginger’ in the middle of the night (when you ring somebody’s doorbell and run)! My mum, dad and my sister are amazing and I love them more than anything in the world.
